The Under Canvas Story

Inspired by the African safari experience, founders Sarah and Jacob Dusek set out to create an immersive outdoor escape that serves as a unique bridge between travel and the outdoors. Under Canvas began in 2009 with the opening of an all-inclusive glamping adventure package and has since grown to include eight luxury glamping resorts and a customized event’s offering, bringing the glamping experience to life anywhere in the country.

The Under Canvas safari-inspired tents include amenities such as daily housekeeping and fresh towels, plush king-size beds, luxurious linens, en suite bathrooms and even a wood burning stove for chilly nights. Kids and adults alike delight over evening s’mores around the communal campfire as they share their stories of their day’s adventure. Happy, well-rested glampers wake to sounds of nature, perfectly positioned to explore America’s most iconic national parks and monuments.

Recognized as the “perfect glamping experience” by Vogue, Under Canvas operates locations in Yellowstone and Glacier in Montana; Moab and Zion in Utah; Mount Rushmore in South Dakota; Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and Grand Canyon and Tucson, Arizona.

The Beauty of Our Intentional Inconveniences

Businesses have the power to do good and spark change in the world. Under Canvas feels a responsibility to accelerate the advent of sustainable travel and hold the hospitality industry to a higher standard.

By staying at Under Canvas, you are part of our efforts to preserve our incredible planet for your enjoyment. Here are some of the ways we work to reduce our impact on nature and still deliver a luxurious experience.

LANDSCAPE– We have a minimal disturbance approach to development. We believe nature is the best architect and strive to leave the land as untouched as possible. A minimal footprint is what we are all about.

WATER– Our camps use 87 percent less water than a similar-sized hotel thanks to low-flow toilets, faucets that automatically shut off, and showers that activate only when guests pull a chain. Guests also help by hanging up towels to use again instead of having them replaced daily.

ELECTRICITY– The limited amount of energy used at our camps is generated by alternative means wherever possible. Our Moab and Zion camps can run 100 percent on solar power, and our Yellowstone and Glacier camps use solar to mitigate our electricity needs.

WASTE– By 2021, we want to be a company that produces zero waste. This means eliminating plastics from our camps (hence our partnership with Boxed Water), converting plates and flatware to compostable options (REPURPOSE), and recycling everything else. We’re well on our way. With all our guests’ help, we can achieve it.

UNPLUG– We intentionally don’t offer wifi to our guests so our guests can disconnect from technology and reconnect with those they love.

Philanthropy

Our mission to be a bridge to the great outdoors is a priority in how we give. We therefore support organizations that are working in partnership to bring the outdoors to children, youth and the disadvantaged. We love organizations conserving, preserving, and protecting our beautiful world and will consider all requests for our support from eco-minded organizations or efforts.

Our camp in Glacier, Montana is available in May & June specifically for hosting charitable camps. Organizations should contact us directly for further information about this opportunity.

Please reach out to us if you would like us to consider your organization for our support.
